National Blood Donor Month

January is designated as National Blood Donor Month. The current theme, "Why I Give," highlights donor stories and the impact of blood donation.

  • Importance: Supplies are often low in winter due to holidays, illness, and weather.
  • Eligibility: Eligible donors can donate blood, plasma, or platelets every eight weeks.
  • Blood Types: O positive is needed most often; O negative are "universal donors"; B positive are "universal recipients. "
  • Partnerships: The American Red Cross is partnering with the National Football League for promotions, including Super Bowl tickets.
  • Call to Action: Residents are encouraged to find a local donation center or blood drive.
