Overview

This is the July 2025 issue of "The Town Crier," a newsletter for Hollidaysburg Borough residents and friends. It covers upcoming summer events, volunteer opportunities, library schedules, public works updates, and a comprehensive guide to local government officials.

Upcoming Events in the 'Burg

The newsletter highlights several key events scheduled for the summer and fall of 2025:

  • Downtown LIVE! Summer Concert Series: Held on the Diamond every Thursday from 6pm–9pm.
    • June 26: Velveeta
    • July 17: Full Kilt
    • Aug 21: Shallow 9
    • Sept 18: Felix and the Hurricanes
  • Allegheny Street Cruise-In: Friday, August 8, from 6pm–9pm.
  • Hollidaysburg Farmers Market: Held near the Diamond every Tuesday from 11am–2pm.
  • Night Markets on Third Fridays: Held June through September (June 20, July 18, Aug 15, Sept 19) from 5pm–8pm. These are held in conjunction with "Third in the Burg" to support local shops and restaurants.
  • Music in the Burg (Canal Basin Park): Free concerts at the amphitheater.
    • May 26, June 29, July 27: All at 7pm
    • Aug 24: 6pm
    • June 22: Matt Otis + The Sound
    • Aug 16: Altoona Symphony Orchestra
    • Sept 7: Coal Aly
  • Free Family Movie Nights: At the amphitheater at 8:45pm.

  • Family Fun Day: Saturday, August 9, from 11am–3pm.
  • Hollidaysburg PumpkinFest: Saturday, October 11, from 10am–4pm on Allegheny Street. Features activities, food, and entertainment.
  • WinterFest:
    • Parade: Sunday, November 23, at 2pm.
    • Light Up Night & Soup Sampling: Friday, November 28, from 5pm–7pm.

Arts Council & Volunteer Opportunities

  • Hollidaysburg Area Arts Council: Announces the remaining concerts for the season (listed above). They also thank the McLanahan Family and Ann S. Borland Estate/Wolf-Kuhn Foundation for refurbishing the pavilion at Canal Basin Park, and instructors Macie Nelson Cutshall and Melissa Cutshall for leading the 2025 Art Camp.
  • Volunteers Needed: The Borough (water) and Sewer Authorities are accepting volunteer interest forms for their boards. Forms are available at hollidaysburgpa.org or the Manager’s Office (second floor of municipal building).
  • The Borough is Green: A partnership with The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy aims to plant 120 trees between Fall 2025 and Fall 2026. Volunteers are needed; contact Andrew Holodnik at 814-695-7543.

Public Works & Infrastructure

  • New Public Works Garage: The newsletter features photos of the new garage under construction, noting the old one was over 60 years old. Photos were taken near the end of June.
  • Spring Clean-Up: The Hollidaysburg Spring Clean-up for Pick Up Pennsylvania was held on June 4. Thanks were extended to volunteers, Public Works, Councilman Leahey, WTAJ, and Lightning Bug Gift Co. for donating shirts.

Library News (July 2025)

The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library is located at 1 Furnace Rd. Hours are Mon–Thurs 9:30am–8:00pm, Fri 9:30am–5:00pm, Sat 9:30am–5:00pm, and Sun 1:00pm–5:00pm. The library is closed on Sundays in July (specifically July 6, 13, 20, 27).

  • Maker Mondays: All Day (11:00am Canasta/Mah Jongg)
  • Storytime: Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30am
  • Needlework & Arts: Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 12:30pm
  • Twisted Stitchers: Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 5:00pm
  • Create Like the Greats: Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 1:00pm
  • LEGO Club: Fridays and Saturdays at 1:00pm (except July 4, 5, 12, 19, 26)
  • Geocaching: Wednesdays at 1:00pm (July 9, 16)
  • PAWS to Read: Saturdays at 10:00am (July 5, 12)
  • Nature Journaling: Saturdays at 1:00pm (July 25)
  • Turtle Visit: Saturdays at 1:00pm (July 31)
  • Family Ties BC: Saturdays at 2:00pm (July 31)
  • Women Writers BC: Wednesdays at 6:00pm (July 16)
  • ABC Photo Society: Tuesdays at 6:30pm (July 22)

Community Safety & Clean-Up

  • Phoenix Volunteer Fire Department: Hosting a public safety open house on July 27th from 11am to 3pm. Food and drink sales will be available. Follow Station 10 Facebook for details.
  • Spring Clean-Up Recap: Held June 4 on Allegheny Street. Despite temperatures over 90 degrees, no rain occurred.
