Overview
This is the September 2025 issue of "The Town Crier," a newsletter for Hollidaysburg Borough residents and friends. It covers upcoming fall events, brush pickup schedules, library activities, volunteer opportunities, and government contacts.
Upcoming Borough Events
- Hollidaysburg PumpkinFest: Saturday, October 11, from 10 am to 4 pm on Allegheny Street. Features activities, food, and entertainment.
- WinterFest Parade: Sunday, November 23, at 2 pm.
- Light Up Night & Soup Sampling: Friday, November 28, from 5 to 7 pm.
- Trick or Treat: Thursday, October 30, from 6 to 8 pm.
- Fall Back: Residents are reminded to turn clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 2, at 2 am.
Fall Brush Pickup
Brush pickup runs from October 6th & 7th through December 1st & 2nd.
- Schedule: Pickups occur on Mondays and Tuesdays.
- Mondays: Areas east of Penn Street (including the east side of Penn St).
- Tuesdays: Areas west of Penn Street, Gaysport, and Holliday Hills.
- Requirements:
- Leaves and brush must be bagged in biodegradable leaf bags.
- Bags must be placed curbside by 7 AM on the day of pickup.
- Twigs (3 inches or less in diameter) must be bundled and tied (no wire).
- No alley pickups except in Holliday Hills.
- Bags containing recyclables or those taped/stapled will not be picked up.
Library News (September 2025)
The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library is located at 1 Furnace Rd.
- Hours: Mon-Thu (9:30-8:00), Fri (9:30-5:00), Sat (9:30-5:00), Sun (1:00-5:00).
- Key Weekly Events:
- Mondays: Maker Monday, Canasta/Mahjongg (11:00 AM), ABC Photo Society (6:30 PM).
- Tuesdays: Storytime (10:30 AM), Needlework & Arts (12:30 PM), Twisted Stitchers (5:00 PM).
- Wednesdays: Storytime (10:30 AM), Inspirational Book Club (6:30 PM).
- Thursdays: Storytime (10:30 AM), Dance, Sing and Play! (10:30 AM).
- Fridays: Paws to Read (10:00 AM), Play With Me (10:00 AM), Legos in the Library (3:30 PM).

- Special Events: Stuffed Animal Sleepover on Sept 21; Best of Times BC on Sept 24.
Volunteer Opportunities
The Borough is seeking volunteers for several boards and committees:
- Historic Preservation Commission (HPC): Oversees historic structures.
- Shade Tree Commission: Inspects and votes on public tree maintenance applications.
- Planning Commission: Reviews policies for community development.
- Blight Committee: Identifies and resolves blight issues.
- How to Apply: Obtain a volunteer interest form at the Borough Building or online at hollidaysburgpa.org.
Comprehensive Plan 2035
Borough Staff and Blair Planning are finalizing the "Hollidaysburg 2035 Past, Present, Future: Planning a Legacy for Generations to Come." Residents are encouraged to watch the Borough website and Facebook page for updates.
Sewer Authority Update
The Hollidaysburg Sewer Authority (HSA) is addressing Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs).
- Issue: CSOs occur when heavy rain or snowmelt overwhelms the system, discharging a mix of sewage and stormwater into waterways.
- Action: The HSA is constructing sanitary sewer separation projects to remove stormwater from sanitary sewers.
- Progress: Phase I (2015) and Phase II (2016) are complete. Phase III construction began in 2024 in the Beaver Street area of Gaysport.
