The Town Crier - September 2023 Newsletter Summary

This is the September 2023 issue of "The Town Crier," a newsletter for Hollidaysburg Borough residents and friends. It covers upcoming events, municipal services, volunteer opportunities, and government contacts.

Fall Brush Pickup

  • Schedule: Pickups occur each week on Mondays and Tuesdays.
    • East of Penn Street: Mondays (including east side of Penn St).
    • West of Penn Street, Gaysport, Holliday Hills: Tuesdays.
  • Duration: Begins October 2nd & 3rd and runs through December 4th & 5th.
  • Requirements:
    • Leaves and brush must be bagged in biodegradable leaf bags.
    • Bags must be placed curbside by 7 AM on the day of pickup.
    • Twigs (3 inches or less in diameter) must be bundled and tied (no wire).
    • No alley pickups except in Holliday Hills.
    • Bags with recyclables or taped/stapled shut will not be picked up (fold the top over instead).
    • Missed items will be picked up the following week; no exceptions.

Farmers Market

  • Schedule: Meets every Tuesday from 11 AM to 2 PM, rain or shine.
  • Location: Montgomery Street near the Diamond.
  • Duration: Continues through September and possibly into October, weather permitting.
  • Night Market: Held on the third Friday of each month from 5-8 PM, in conjunction with "Third in the Burg."

Trick or Treat

  • Date: Thursday, October 26th.
  • Time: 6 PM to 8 PM.
  • Details: The Hollidaysburg Police Department will be patrolling the streets during this time.

Street Sweeping Schedule (September 2023)

  • Week #1: September 5th – 7th
  • Week #2: September 11th – 13th
  • Week #3: September 18th – 20th
  • Week #4: September 25th – 27th
  • Maps and schedules are available online at hollidaysburgpa.org or at the borough building.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Winterfest Parade: Volunteers needed to help with the parade. Contact Melanie Ramsey at mramsey@hollidaysburgpa.org or 814-696-0544.
  • Winterfest Committee: Volunteers needed to help plan Winterfest. Contact Melanie Ramsey at mramsey@hollidaysburgpa.org or 814-696-0544. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
  • Gateway Garden: Volunteers needed to pull out flowers on Tuesday, October 10th, 2023, at 8:00 AM. Located on old Route 22 near The Dream Restaurant. Contact Rick Pope at 814-934-4032 or attend the garden on October 10th at 8 AM.

Arts Council News

  • Thanks everyone who participated in "Art in the Park" camp and "Music in the Burg."
  • Upcoming Event: An Adult Workshop with instructor Theresa McKeegan this fall. Follow HAAC on Facebook or visit their website for details.
  • Sponsorship: HAAC is sponsoring music for PumpkinFest on October 14th.

Sidewalk Grants

  • The Borough Council has authorized a grant program reimbursing property owners 25% of the cost for replacing or installing a pedestrian sidewalk along a public street.
  • Applications are reviewed in order received and remain open until funds are exhausted or the program is closed.
  • Applications are available at the Borough Building, 401 Blair Street, during regular office hours (Mon-Fri, 8 AM to 4 PM).

Winterfest Parade

  • Date: Sunday, November 19th at 2 PM.
  • Route: Starts at Junior High School, proceeds up Union Street, across Allegheny Street, down Montgomery Street, and disbands at St. John's Church. The route includes Walnut St, Spruce St, Pine St, Hickory St, Garber St, and Hart Street.

  • Date: Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
