Fall Brush Pickup Schedule
- Dates: Begins October 3rd & 4th; runs through December 5th & 6th.
- Days: Mondays and Tuesdays.
- Requirements: Leaves and brush must be bagged in biodegradable leaf bags and placed curbside by 7 AM on the day of pickup.
- Twigs: Must be bundled and tied (no wire). Diameter must be 3 inches or less.
- Location Specifics:
- Pickup to the EAST of Penn Street (including east side) is on Mondays.
- Leaf pickup to the WEST of Penn Street, Gaysport, and Holliday Hills is on Tuesdays.
- Notes: No alley pickups except in Holliday Hills. Do not tape or staple bags (fold the top over instead). Recyclables should not be in these bags.
Farmers Markets
- Regular Market: Held every Tuesday from 11 AM to 2 PM, rain or shine. Location: Montgomery Street near the Diamond. Runs through October.
- Night Markets: Held on the third Friday of each month from 5 PM to 8 PM. Location: Third in the Burg.
- Sponsor: Evey Black Attorneys.
Community Events & News
- Halloween Parade: Hosted by the Phoenix Volunteer Fire Department on October 29, 2022. Lineup at 4:00 PM; parade moves at 6:00 PM. Contact Bob Dilling for info. Police and Fire Dept will be watching streets.
- Winterfest Volunteers Needed: The committee is seeking volunteers to help plan Winterfest. Contact Melanie Ramsey at mramsey@hollidaysburgpa.org or 814-696-0544.
- Arts Council News: A self-guided Art Walk is scheduled for Friday, September 16th from 5-8 PM. Starts at Picture Perfect Gallery (309 Allegheny Street, Ste #3). Free and family-friendly.
- Arbor Day Celebration: Recently held on April 29th at the corner of N. Montgomery and Walnut Streets. Two Japanese Lilac trees were planted by the Shade Tree Commission, Public Works, and audience members.
- Gateway Garden Volunteers Needed: Volunteers needed to pull flowers on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at 8:00 AM. Location: Old Route 22 near The Dream Restaurant. Contact Rick Pope at 814-934-4032.
Retirements
- Barbara Hinish: Public Safety Clerk and Accounting Clerk, retired at the end of April after starting in 2003.
- Officer William Sheehan: Retired from the Hollidaysburg Police Department after nearly 26 years of service (career began August 5, 1996).
Borough Ordinances & Reminders
- Property Maintenance: Grass and weeds must not exceed six (6) inches. Violations can lead to legal proceedings under Chapter 10, Health and Safety, Part 1, Weed Control.
- Leaf Raking: Residents are reminded NOT to rake or push leaves into the street. This is a safety hazard and violators will be fined.
