Winter Weather & Safety Reminders

  • Sledding Closures: Spruce Street (between Bella and Bell) and "Double Dips" are closed for sledding only during significant snowfall. Hours are strictly 8:00 am to 10:00 pm.
  • Snow Emergency Procedures: The Mayor will declare a snow emergency starting at 8:00 am or 8:00 pm.
    • Parking Rules: Odd/even parking is enforced only during these emergencies. If the emergency starts at 8:00 pm, park on the EVEN side; if it starts at 8:00 am, move cars to the ODD side.
    • Goal: Borough streets must be cleared of snow within 36 hours.
    • Enforcement: Vehicles violating parking rules will be towed at the owner's expense.
  • Sidewalks: Property owners must clear snow within 24 hours of the end of a snow event.
  • Pet Owners: It is unlawful to allow pets to defecate on Borough property.

RAVE Alert System

  • Purpose: Rapid notification for water outages and disruptions.
  • How to Enroll: Residents must provide a contact number to the water billing office. Apartment tenants with separate meters can enroll individually.
  • Timing: Alerts are typically sent at 5:00 pm the day before a planned outage.
  • Updates: Residents must update their phone numbers if they change. Contact the water billing office at (814) 696-0623.

New Public Works Director

  • Retirement: Rick Pope retired in December 2024 after serving since 2001.
  • New Appointment: Amy Hazlett, a long-time employee since 1990, has been named the new Director of Public Works.

Gateway Garden Planting

  • Event: Volunteers are needed to plant flowers at the Gateway Garden (near The Dream Restaurant) and the garden at N. Juniata and Allegheny Streets.
  • Date: Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 9:00 am to noon.
  • Details: Tools and gloves provided. Contact Amy Hazlett at 934-4032 or ahazlett@hollidaysburgpa.org.

Hometown Heroes Banner Program

  • Donation: The Lightning Bug Gift Shop donated over $600 to support the upkeep of the Chimney Rocks star.
  • Application: Applications for 2025 banners are open with a deadline of March 3, 2025.
    • Requirements: Completed form, signed photo release, veteran photograph, and a $10 donation.
