The Town Crier - April 2025 Newsletter Summary

This is the April 2025 issue of "The Town Crier," a newsletter for Hollidaysburg Borough residents and friends.

Upcoming Events & Workshops

  • Coffee and Codes Workshop: Throughout May, Andrew Holodnik (Director of Community Development) will host workshops for contractors and residents to learn about changes to the Uniform Construction Code (UCC). Local coffee will be served. Check the borough's website or Facebook for locations and times.
  • Arbor Day 2025: Celebrated on Friday, April 25, 2025. The Borough acknowledges the importance of trees and celebrates its 36th year as a Tree City USA. A tree planting ceremony will be held at 10:00 am at 400 Allegheny Street.
  • Farmers Market: The Hollidaysburg Farmers Market opens in June and runs through September.
    • Regular Hours: Tuesdays, 11 am - 2 pm on Montgomery Street near the Diamond.
    • Night Markets: Third Friday of each month, 5 - 8 pm, in conjunction with "Third in the Burg."
  • Memorial Day Parade: Scheduled for May 26th at 10:00 am. The parade will start at the bottom of Allegheny Street (at Allegheny and N. Juniata Streets).
  • Cleanup Day: Plans are underway for a spring community cleanup day. More information will be posted on the borough's Facebook page.

Arts Council News

  • 2025 Art Camp: "Reach for the Stars" camp runs from June 23rd to June 27th, 9 am - 12 pm at Canal Basin Park.
    • Eligibility: Students aged 6 to 9.
    • Cost: $110 per student (scholarships available).
    • Registration Deadline: May 15th.

Public Works Garage Groundbreaking

  • A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Friday, March 28th for the new public works building at 305 Loop Road.
  • Funding: The project is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
  • Cost: The contracted cost is $527,650.00.
  • Purpose: The new building will provide an updated working environment and more cost-effective storage for equipment and vehicles. The existing 1965 building will be used for storage after the new one is complete.

Hollidaysburg Area Public Library (April 2025)

  • Hours: Mon-Thurs 9:30-8:00, Fri 9:30-5:00, Sat 9:30-5:00, Sun 1:00-5:00.
  • Key Events:
    • Regular programming includes Storytime, Twisted Stitchers, Book Sales, and various clubs.
    • Easter (April 20): Library is closed.
    • Earth Day: Celebrated on April 22nd.

Allegheny Street Cruise-In 2025

  • Date: Friday, May 30, 6 - 9 pm.
  • Details: Features vehicles from 1972 and older, with live music by the Fabulous Flashbacks.

  • Borough Council: Includes members from Ward 1 (David Jacobs), Ward 2 (Brady Leahey), Ward 3 (Clay Gingrich), Ward 4 (Sean M. Burke), Ward 5 (William Kitt), Ward 6 (Walter Kalista III), and Ward 7 (Jeffrey J. Ketner).
  • Mayor: Joseph R. Dodson.
  • Borough Manager: Ethan Imhoff.
  • Key Staff & Departments: Lists contact information for the Solicitor, Police Chief, Fire Marshal, Directors of Community Facilities, Water Department, Wastewater Operations, and Finance.
  • Commissions & Boards: Provides member lists for the Planning Commission, Sewer Authority, Zoning Hearing Board, HARB, Shade Tree Commission, Civil Service Commission, IRC (Borough Reps), Blight Committee, and Vacancy Board.
