Spring Brush Pickup Schedule

The Borough of Hollidaysburg will begin its annual brush pickup in April. Residents must place items curbside by 7:00 am.

  • Start Date: Monday, April 3, 2023
  • End Date: Tuesday, May 23, 2023
  • Accepted Items: Compostable waste including dead leaves, dead plant material, tree/brush trimmings, and branches up to 3" in diameter and 6' in length.
  • Requirements: Brush must be bundled with string or twine (no wire).
  • Rejected Items: Stone, garbage, gravel, dirt, junk, and appliances.
  • Schedule by Location:
    • East side of Penn Street: Every Monday.
    • West side of Penn Street: Every Tuesday.
  • Missed Items: If items are missed or not set out in time, they will be picked up the following week.
  • Alley Pickups: Only available for Sweet Cherry Court in Holliday Hills.

Street Sweeping Schedule

Street sweeping will occur according to the following monthly blocks.

  • April: 3rd–7th, 10th–14th, 17th–21st, 24th–28th
  • May: 1st–3rd, 8th–10th, 15th–17th, 22nd–24th
  • September: 5th–7th, 11th–13th, 18th–20th, 25th–27th

Community Events & News

Gateway Garden Planting

The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy sponsors the Gateway Gardens (located beside The Dream Restaurant and at N. Juniata/Allegheny Street). Volunteers are needed to help plant flowers.

  • Date: Thursday, May 11, 2023
  • Time: 9:00 am to noon
  • Details: Tools and gloves provided. Contact Richard Pope at 934-4032 or rpope@hollidaysburgpa.org for questions.

Arts Council Summer Art Camp

The Hollidaysburg Area Art Council is hosting "Art in the Park" at Canal Basin Park (101 Canal Street).

  • Dates: June 12th–15th (9:00 am – noon)
  • Eligibility: Students aged 6–8.
  • Activities: Nature-inspired art projects using natural materials, watercolors, oil pastels, clay, and more. Instructor Macie Nelson will lead nature walks.
  • Cost: $80 for the four-day camp (fee due with registration).
  • Registration: Forms available at www.hollidaysburgartscouncil.com. Limited enrollment.

Downtown LIVE!

Free evening music events are held on the Third Thursdays of select months.

  • Dates: June 15, July 20, August 17, September 21
  • Time: 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
  • Location: The Diamond in Hollidaysburg. Bring a folding chair.

Farmers Market

  • Regular Market: Tuesdays from June through September, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. Location: Montgomery Street near the Diamond (rain or shine).
  • Night Markets: Third Friday of each month, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Held in conjunction with "Third in the Burg."

Borough Services & Regulations

Sidewalk Grants

The Borough Council has authorized a grant program for residents and property owners.

  • Benefit: Reimburses 25% of the cost for replacing or installing a pedestrian sidewalk along a public street.
  • Process: Applications are reviewed in the order received. The program remains open until funds are exhausted or closed by Council.
  • Applications: Available at the Borough Building, 401 Blair Street, during regular office hours.

Building & Zoning Permits

  • Responsibility: It is the property owner's responsibility to apply for permits. Contractors may apply only if authorized by the owner as an "Authorized Agent."
  • Unauthorized Work: If work commences without a permit, the owner is responsible for securing it. Contractors may apply only if authorized by the owner to do so.

Street Tree Pruning

  • Owner Responsibility: Property owners must remove low-hanging, pedestrian-unfriendly branches and unsightly suckers from the base of street trees.
  • Permits: No permit is required for this specific type of trimming. Permits are still needed for more extensive pruning (no charge).
  • Contact: Hollidaysburg Shade Tree Commission.

RAVE Alert System

The Borough uses this rapid notification system to alert residents about water outages or disruptions.

  • How it Works: Residents provide a phone number to the water billing office. Alerts are sent via recorded message at 5:00 pm on the day before an outage.
  • Enrollment: Property owners, account holders, and tenants can enroll. Apartment buildings with separate meters per tenant can each enroll one number; buildings with one meter can enroll one number.
  • Updates: Residents must update their phone number if they change it.
