Hollidaysburg Celebrates America250PA The Borough of Hollidaysburg held a ceremony on Tuesday, June 30th at Canal Basin Park to honor the 250th Anniversary of America. The event featured the lighting of the star on Chimney Rocks with red, white, and blue lights. Blair County Commissioner Amy Webster and Mayor Chad Repko welcomed the crowd, while Terry Wilt, Dick Meadows, and Simon Stephens led the countdown. The Hollidaysburg Community Band provided patriotic music. The 20-foot star, originally installed in 1963 for the Christmas season, will remain lit through July to commemorate America250PA. Repko issued a message focusing on public safety and upcoming projects: Public Safety: With summer officially here, the Mayor urged residents to drive slowly and yield to pedestrians. He noted that HPD welcomed a new officer, Noah Deremer, on June 22nd, with another expected in the coming months. Speeding: The Borough is considering speed bumps and reduced speed limits to combat speeding vehicles. Rails to Trails: This remains a top priority for the Mayor. He reported that talks with the property owner are ongoing and expressed optimism about reaching a deal to move the project forward. Upcoming Borough Events Several events are scheduled for the summer and fall: On The Diamond / Allegheny Street Farmers Market: Tuesdays, June–September, 11 AM–2 PM. Night Markets: Third Friday of each month, June–September, 5–8 PM. Downtown Live! Concerts (Thursdays, 6–9 PM) July 16th: Studio Two (Beatles Tribute) August 20th: Full Kilt (Farewell Appearance) September 17th: Felix and the Hurricanes Canal Basin Park Amphitheater (Music in the Burg) August 15th: Altoona Symphony Orchestra at 6 PM. August 23rd: Altoona Community Band at 6 PM. Other Events PumpkinFest: Saturday, October 10th, 10 AM–4 PM. Phoenix Volunteer Fire Dept Chicken BBQ: Sunday, July 26th, starting at 11:00 AM. Cost is $14. 00 for a meal including half a chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, macaroni salad, and roll and butter. Summer Clean Up & Recycling The 2026 Blair County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event will be held at the Jaffa Shrine on Saturday, July 18th from 8 AM to 1 PM . Pre-registration is required.
