National Women’s History Month
March is designated as National Women’s History Month, marked annually by a Presidential Proclamation. The theme for 2025 is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating and Inspiring Generations. ” The month honors women’s contributions to American history, tracing its roots back to the 1909 Women’s Day and the 1911 International Women’s Day.
Significant Historical Dates:
- March 3, 1913: Women marched in the Suffrage Parade in Washington D. C.
- March, 1917: The National Women’s Party was created to advocate for women’s rights and suffrage.
- March 1, 1972: Title IX of the Education Amendments Act was signed into law, prohibiting sex-based discrimination in education.
Library Events
The Altoona Area Public Library is hosting the First Annual Bookworms Golf Event on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
- Family Mini-Golf: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Cost is $5. 00. Tee times are every half hour (last tee time 1:30 PM). Special prizes for children under 10. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Adult-Only Mini Golf: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Cost is $15. 00 per person (ages 18+). Includes hors d'oeuvres and mocktails.

Volunteer Opportunities
Registration is open for Contact Altoona’s Spring Training. This program prepares volunteers to work from home using a telephone helpline to connect Blair County residents with human services resources.
- Training Dates: April 7th, 8th, 9th, 14th, and 25th from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
- Requirements: Attendance at all sessions is required to begin apprenticeships.
- Registration Deadline: April 1st.

Teenager Day
March 21st, 2025 is National Teenager Day, a day to recognize the importance of teenagers (ages 13-19) and celebrate their impact on history. Notable teen achievers mentioned include Louis Braille, Blaise Pascal, Laura Dekker, and Malala Yousafzai.
Model Train Show
The Alto Model Train Museum Association (AMTMA) will host its annual Toy Train Show and Swap Meet on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
- Location: Blair County Convention Center.
- Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
- Admission: $5 (purchased at the door).
- Features: Displays, railroad artifacts, memorabilia, and model trains for sale.
WISE Women of Blair County
The WISE Women organization is offering scholarships and hosting a Tribute Dinner.
- Scholarships: Available to women ages 21+ who have overcome adversity and are pursuing post-secondary education. Awards up to $20,000. Applications must be submitted by March 28, 2025, at 4:00 PM.
- Tribute Dinner: Held on April 16, 2025, at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Hors d'oeuvres begin at 6:00 PM, followed by dinner at 6:30 PM.

The PA CareerLink® Spring Job Fair will be held on April 17th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. A special slot between 9:30 AM – 10:00 AM is reserved for Veterans.
