Overview
The Williamsburg Municipal Authority (WMA) has released its Consumer Confidence Report for the 2025 operating year. The report details the quality of water supplied to residents, the sources of that water, and the results of monitoring for regulated contaminants. The WMA draws its supply from groundwater wells located in Woodbury Township and treats the water with chlorine to ensure safety.
Water Source and Infrastructure
- Source: The public water supply is groundwater drawn from the Gatesburg Aquifer.
- Location: Three production wells are located along Briarwood Lane, south of the intersection of Sage Hill Drive and Taylor Street in Woodbury Township.
- System Components: The system includes three production wells, a water treatment/control building, two treated water storage tanks (capacities of 508,000 and 512,000 gallons), approximately 18 miles of transmission/distribution lines, and a booster station.
- Capacity:
- Well No. 1 and No. 2: 475,200 gallons per day each.
- Well No. 3: 828,000 gallons per day.
- Total System Capacity: Up to 1,440,000 gallons per day.
- Treatment: The only required treatment is disinfection via the addition of chlorine.
Contaminant Monitoring Results
The Authority monitored for contaminants between January 1 and December 31, 2025. No violations were recorded for any detected regulated contaminants.
Disinfectant Residuals and By-Products
- Chlorine (Distribution System): Highest level detected was 1. 49 ppm in May 2025.
- Chlorine (Entry Point): Lowest residual recorded was 1. 27 ppm on November 2, 2025.
- TTHMs (Total Trihalomethanes): Detected at 0. 626 ppb on September 12, 2025. This is a byproduct of disinfection.
Inorganic Contaminants
- Nitrate: Detected at 1. 44 ppm (Limit: 10 ppm). Source includes fertilizer runoff and septic tanks.
- Barium: Detected at 0. 0287 ppm (Limit: 2 ppm). Source includes drilling waste and natural deposits.
- Chromium: Detected at 2. 83 ppb (Limit: 100 ppb). Source includes steel/pulp mills and natural deposits.
- PFBS: Detected at 0. 31 ppt (Hazard Index: 1). Source includes manufacturing and land use runoff.
- PFHxS: Detected at 0. 473 ppt (Hazard Index: 1). Source includes manufacturing and land use runoff.
Lead and Copper
- Lead: The 90th percentile value was 14. 0 ppb (Action Level: 15 ppb). No sites tested above the action level. Source is corrosion of household plumbing.
- Copper: The 90th percentile value was 0. 14 ppm (Action Level: 1. 3 ppm). No sites tested above the action level. Source is corrosion of household plumbing and wood preservatives.
Public Health Information
- Vulnerable Populations: Individuals with compromised immune systems (e. g. , cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients), the elderly, and infants are at higher risk from microbial contaminants.
- Guidance: The EPA and CDC recommend guidelines for reducing infection risk from Cryptosporidium. Residents can access these via the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
- Lead Risk: Lead primarily enters water from service lines and home plumbing. Residents are advised to flush pipes for several minutes before drinking or cooking if water has sat for several hours.
