Overview

The Williamsburg Municipal Authority (WMA) has released its Consumer Confidence Report for the 2022 operating year. This document outlines the quality of the public drinking water supplied to residents in Williamsburg Borough and portions of Catherine and Woodbury Townships. The WMA draws its water from groundwater sources located in the Gatesburg Aquifer and treats it primarily through disinfection.

Water Source and Infrastructure

  • Source: Groundwater drawn from three production wells located along Briarwood Lane in Woodbury Township.
  • Aquifer: The water is drawn from the Gatesburg Aquifer and is considered high quality.
  • Treatment: The only required treatment for the source water is disinfection via the addition of chlorine.
  • Capacity: The system consists of three wells, a treatment building, two storage tanks, and approximately 18 miles of distribution lines.
    • Well No. 1 & 2: Permitted capacity of 475,200 gallons per day each.
    • Well No. 3: Permitted capacity of 828,000 gallons per day.
    • Storage Tanks: Capacities of 508,000 and 512,000 gallons respectively.
  • Total Supply: The system is permitted to supply up to 1,440,000 gallons per day.
  • 2022 Usage: The system provided an average of 129,244 gallons per day (47,174,060 total gallons) to 756 customers.

Contaminant Monitoring Results

The Authority monitored for contaminants between January 1 and December 31, 2022. No violations occurred in 2022.

Disinfectant Residuals and By-Products

  • Chlorine: Used to control microbes. Levels ranged from 1. 2 to 2. 12 ppm.
  • TTHMs (Total Trihalomethanes): Detected at 12. 5 ppb (Limit: 80 ppb).
  • HAA (Haloacetic Acids): Detected at 5. 82 ppb (Limit: 60 ppb).

Inorganic Contaminants

  • Nitrate: Detected at 1. 37 ppm (Limit: 10 ppm). Source includes fertilizer runoff and septic tanks.
  • Barium: Detected at 0. 0357 ppm (Limit: 2 ppm). Source includes drilling waste and natural deposits.

Lead and Copper

  • Lead: The 90th percentile value was 10. 7 ppb (Action Level: 15 ppb). No sites exceeded the action level.
  • Copper: The 90th percentile value was 0. 118 ppm (Action Level: 1. 3 ppm). No sites exceeded the action level.
  • Note: Lead in drinking water primarily comes from household plumbing and service lines. Residents are advised to flush taps for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before use if water has been sitting for several hours.

Source Water Assessment

A formal Source Water Assessment by the PA Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) has not yet been completed for this water supply. Residents can check the status of assessments on the PA DEP website.

Vulnerable Populations

Certain groups, including persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders, the elderly, and infants, may be more vulnerable to contaminants. These individuals should consult their healthcare providers regarding drinking water safety.

Authority meetings are held at 6 PM on the first Tuesday of each month at the Williamsburg Municipal Building.
