2021 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report

Overview

The Williamsburg Municipal Authority (WMA) has released its Consumer Confidence Report for the 2021 operating year. The report details the quality of water supplied to 720 customers in Williamsburg Borough and portions of Catherine and Woodbury Townships. The water source is high-quality groundwater drawn from the Gatesburg Aquifer, which requires only disinfection via chlorine addition.

Water Source and Infrastructure

  • Source: Groundwater from the Gatesburg Aquifer.
  • Production Wells: Three wells located on Briarwood Lane in Woodbury Township.
    • Well No. 1 and No. 2: Permitted capacity of 475,200 gallons per day each.
    • Well No. 3: Permitted capacity of 828,000 gallons per day.
  • System Capacity: The system is permitted to supply up to 1,440,000 gallons per day.
  • Usage: In 2021, the system provided an average of 118,742 gallons per day (43,341,000 total gallons).
  • Storage: Two treated water storage tanks with capacities of 508,000 and 512,000 gallons.

Contaminant Monitoring Results

The Authority monitored for contaminants between January 1 and December 31, 2021. No violations were recorded for the regulated contaminants listed below.

Disinfectant Residuals and By-Products

  • Chlorine: Used to control microbes. Levels ranged from 1. 2 to 3. 35 ppm.
  • TTHMs (Total Trihalomethanes): Detected at 13. 4 ppb (Limit: 80 ppb).
  • HAA (Haloacetic Acids): Detected at 4. 38 ppb (Limit: 60 ppb).

Inorganic Contaminants

  • Nitrate: Detected at 1. 39 ppm (Limit: 10 ppm).
  • Barium: Detected at 0. 0357 ppm (Limit: 2 ppm).

Lead and Copper

  • Lead: The 90th percentile value was 6. 64 ppb (Action Level: 15 ppb). No sites exceeded the action level.
  • Copper: The 90th percentile value was 0. 124 ppm (Action Level: 1. 3 ppm). No sites exceeded the action level.
  • Note: Lead and copper testing was conducted in 2019; results are included in this report.

Compliance and Violations

While no violations occurred in 2021, the report notes two past violations from 2020 that were corrected:

  1. Violation #1: Failure to sample for Dioxin in 2020.
  2. Violation #2: Failure to sample for PCBs in 2020. Both violations were corrected by resuming sampling protocols and issuing public notifications. Compliance was achieved in 2021.

Source Water Assessment

A formal Source Water Assessment has not yet been completed by the PA Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP). Residents can check the status of assessments on the PA DEP website.
