2019 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report

Overview

The Williamsburg Municipal Authority (WMA) has released its 2019 Consumer Confidence Report. This document details the quality of drinking water provided to customers in Williamsburg Borough and portions of Catherine and Woodbury Townships. The report covers the water source, treatment processes, monitoring results for regulated contaminants, and contact information for the Authority.

Water Source and Supply

• Source: The water supply is groundwater drawn from the Gatesburg Aquifer.
• Location: Water is drawn from three production wells located along Briarwood Lane in Woodbury Township.
• System Capacity: The system is permitted to supply up to 1,440,000 gallons per day.
• 2019 Usage: During 2019, the system provided an average of 141,375 gallons per day (51,602,000 total gallons) to 703 customers.
• Treatment: The only required treatment is disinfection via the addition of chlorine.

Contaminant Monitoring Results

The Authority monitored for contaminants between January 1 and December 31, 2019. No violations were recorded.

Disinfectant Residuals and By-Products

• Chlorine: Levels were monitored at the entry point and throughout the distribution system. The highest average level detected in the distribution system was 1. 62 ppm (Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level is 4).
• Total Trihalomethanes (TTHM): A by-product of disinfection, TTHM was detected at 11. 4 ppb (Maximum Contaminant Level is 80).

Inorganic Contaminants

• Nitrate: Detected at 1. 35 ppm (MCL is 10).
• Barium: Detected at 0. 0278 ppm (MCL is 2).
• Arsenic: Detected at 1. 03 ppb (MCL is 10).
• Selenium: Detected at 4. 26 ppb (MCL is 50).

Lead and Copper

• Lead: The 90th percentile value was 6. 64 ppb (Action Level is 15). No sites tested exceeded the action level.
• Copper: The 90th percentile value was 0. 124 ppm (Action Level is 1. 3). No sites tested exceeded the action level.

Health and Safety Information

• Vulnerable Populations: Individuals with compromised immune systems (e. g. , cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients), the elderly, and infants are at higher risk from microbial contaminants.
• Lead Exposure: Lead in drinking water primarily comes from household plumbing materials. Residents are advised to flush their tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking if the water has been sitting for several hours.
• Source Water Assessment: A formal Source Water Assessment by the PA Department of Environmental Protection has not yet been completed for this supply.
